Location & Route to Marloth Park

It is 450 km from Johannesburg to Marloth Park. Drive on the left, the motorways are excellent, and the final stretch is a stunning route through the mountains (the Little Drakensberg).

Route:

From Johannesburg Airport, first follow the R21. After 5 km, take the slip road onto the N12, towards Witbank/Emalahleni. Continue on the N12 for 113 km towards Witbank/Middelburg. At Witbank, turn right onto the N4 and pay the toll at Middelburg Plaza, heading towards Middelburg/Lydenburg. Continue along the N4 until you have passed Machadodorp. 2 km after the Machadodorp toll station, continue along the N4 via Waterval Boven and then head east towards Nelspruit.

Since 2010, you can take the bypass at Nelspruit. This means you no longer have to drive right through the town of Nelspruit. At Kaapmuiden, you’ll pass the Nkomazi Plaza toll station. Continue on the N4 towards Malelane / Komatipoort / Maputo. After Hectorspruit, leave the N4 and take the left turn towards Marloth Park. This is an unpaved road of approximately 6 km leading to the entrance of Marloth Park. This road may be in poor condition, so please drive carefully. You’ll enter via Olifantsrijlaan, the only tarmac road in Marloth Park.

Now that the tarmac Ten Bosch road is complete, you can also choose this route. In that case, take the next turn-off after Marloth Park, the Ten Bosch turn-off. This road leads in a straight line to Gate 2 of Marloth Park.

From Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport:

When you leave the car hire company’s car park, turn left at the roundabout. After 1.5 km, turn left at the T-junction onto the R538 and follow the N538 for approximately 11 km. Please note: 500 m before you turn left onto the N4 at the T-junction, you will come to another major junction where stopping is prohibited. At Kaapmuiden, you’ll pass the Nkomazi Plaza toll station; see the description above.
